We discussed in class some issues involving tutorials. Here I go over this again.
First, tutorials begin next week.
Second, there are two tutorial time slots: Mondays at 6PM and Wednesdays at 6PM. For reasons that we don't understand, ROSI decided to set up two separate tutorial sections for the Wednesday 6PM tutorials: P5201 and P5301. When we load student records into STORM, we will collapse these two sections into a single one: P5201. You need do nothing about this, and I only mention it so that if you check your assignment in STORM you won't be surprised to see that the P5301 section has magically turned into P5201.
Third, we want the Monday and Wednesday tutorials to have roughly equal numbers of students. At present, there are 60 students for the Monday tutorials and 107 for the Wednesday ones. 29 students have not yet chosen a tutorial section. I have closed the Wednesday tutorial sections. If you have not yet signed up for a tutorial and can not come on Mondays, you will need to see me for a special dispensation to get into the Wednesday time slot.
Fourth, if you are currently in a Wednesday tutorial and can attend Monday tutorials I am asking you to change to Mondays. I predict that we will still end up with fewer students in Monday's tutorials, so you will be in a smaller group if you make this change.
Fifth and finally (!): Tuesday January 10 is the last day when changes that you make to your tutorial via ROSI will work. After tomorrow, we will not receive any tutorial changes you make via ROSI.

By Wednesday's class please read §1.1, §3.1 - 3.5 of Hobson. These are the sections of the text we discussed today or will discuss on Wednesday.
By Monday's class on January 16 please read §4.1 - 4.4, §5.1 - 5.2, and §5.5 of Hobson. These are the sections we will be discussing in class that week. The first Pre-Class Quiz will be given at the beginning of class on Jan. 16 on these sections.
The first homework assignment is from Hobson Chapter 3: Conceptual Exercises 1, 4, 5, 9. It is due in tutorial next week.
Typically, when a Conceptual Exercise from the text is assigned as a homework problem, about 1/3 of a page of writing is probably required to answer and discuss the question.
We spent most of the class on organisational matters and an overview of the course. At the end we began our discussion of §3.1 - 3.2.
