Low Frequency Oscillator

Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard
Model: 202C

Description

Generates low distortion sine waves over the 1 to 100,000 cycle/second range. Special circuitry insures a waveform of high stability and low distortion that is independent of the load connected to the instrument. The internal impedance of the instrumnet is 600 Ohms and will provide either a balanced or unbalanced output.

Specifications

Frequency range1 cps to 100 kc in five ranges.
RangesX 1 (1 to 10 cps)
X 10 (10 to 100 cps)
X 100 (100 to 1000 cps)
X 1K (1 to 10 kc)
X 10K (10 - 100 kc)
Dial6 inch diameter calibrated over 300 ° of arc. Total scale length approximately 80 inches.
Frequency Response± 1 db entire frequency range (reference 1 kc on X 1K range)
Output160 milliwatts into 600 Ohms rated load, or 10 V. 20 V open circuit
Internal Impedence600 ohms.
Distortion< 0.5% above cps. Independent of load impedence.
Hum Voltage< 0.1% of rated output. Decreases as output is attentuated.
Recovery Time< 5 seconds at 1 cps.
Accuracy
± 2% under normal ambient temperature conditions, including calibration error, warmup, component aging, tubes, etc.
Output Balance
Better than 0.1 % at lower frequencies and approximately 1% at 100 kc. Output is balanced to ground at maximum amplitude setting. (May be operated with one side grounded if desired).

Operating Instructions

  1. Turn on and allow warm-up of approximately 5 minutes. When maximum stability is required, the warm up period should be extended to at least 30 minutes.
  2. Set frequency range with RANGE switch and select frequency output voltage with the FREQUENCY DIAL.
  3. Connect externally tested apparatus at the terminals labeled 600 Ohms.
  4. Adjust AMPLITUDE control to obtain desired output voltage.
  5. UNBALANCED OPERATION : captive ground strap is placed between the G terminal and center terminal.
  6. BALANCED OPERATION : G terminal is connected to ground of equipment being tested.
